Book categories

I update this blog roughly every 6 months. All books are categorized in two ways – (a) by the action I recommend/degree to which the book resonated with me and (b) by topic. Both categorizations are far from perfect as the process is both subjective and more art than science. Books resonate with us in different ways depending on what we’re seeking to learn and depending on when we read them. So I hope you treat these categorizations just as guideposts as you look to find what you’re seeking.

The first categorization is based on the action I recommend. “1. Read ASAP!” are books that resonated so deeply with me that I find myself recommending them to anyone who asks for a book recommendation. “2. BUY it!” are the next category of books – you may not want to read it now but it is worth getting it. “3. SHELF it” are books that I recommend keeping on the bookshelf so you can pick them up when you seek them. And “4. SOMEDAY it” are books that I thought I might like but just didn’t resonate with me at the time.

The second categorization is by topic. I’ve often gone down topic rabbit holes (e.g., personal finance) and this categorization reflects some of those rabbit holes.
